Jemerine Chan – “Let Go”

“Let Go” is an affecting track from Malaysian-born, London-based artist Jemerine Chan. Emerging from a spontaneous burst of heartbreak, this single from her debut Reset — out in July — utilizes intimate, lush folk atmospherics within perspectives of acceptance and personal growth.

A lushly hypnotic blend of soft acoustic strums and mellow piano complement Chan’s riveting vocal presence, balancing emotive power and serene tonal sensibility. “I know it’s the time to let me go, I know I’ll forgive myself from moving on,” her vocals enthrall, bolstered here by atmospheric electric guitar twangs. “Step by step to open the door,” she continues, capturing the process of personal change and evaluating self-worth. Spine-tingling uses of backing, harmonious vocals excel as well, guiding into tender guitar tones and wordless vocal harmonizing as the two-minute mark approaches.

“I know I’m supposed to let it go,” a vulnerable vocal hold envelops thereafter, striving to recognize that “everything will be alright” — even if the process is a long and arduous one. A reprisal of the “open the door” sequence stuns subsequently, dazzling with the layered vocal gorgeousness and subdued folk-rock dreaminess. “Let Go” is a lovely production and heartfelt piece of songwriting from Jemerine Chan, artfully navigating from laid-back folk introspection to layered dream-pop sophistication.
