Madrid Exit – “Gone”

A stunningly atmospheric second single from Madrid Exit, “Gone” is a momentum-filled standout that builds from a dreamily caressing first half into a more anthemic, vibrant pull. The project comes via Montreal-based songwriter, producer, and composer Alexy Préfontaine, aka aeforia. The track, which follows up debut single “July (ft. Delachute),” is described as capturing “the weight of an emotional standoff between two partners preceding an inevitable departure.”

Breezy, warming synths and spacious vocals craft a riveting soundscape right away. “Standing here, nobody won,” the layered vocal lushness lets out. “Darling, you knew all along.” Further sentiments of “still I love you all the same” send chills as a wordless vocal ascent precedes, and then lingers into, a more pulsating rhythmic backdrop. The dreamy art-pop production continues to hypnotize throughout, delighting in its steady and inviting vocal presence and patiently unfolding atmospheric blissfulness. Also accompanying this excellent track is a wonderfully experimental music video directed by Welsh-born Montreal videographer Orhan Aydin.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
