The Venus Children – “Rollercoaster”

A grooving rock debut from Leeds, UK-based band The Venus Children, the single “Rollercoaster” excels in both moments of invigorating heavy-rocking ardor and funky contemplations. Warming bass and twangy guitars open the track, soon giving way to swirling guitars and compelling funk bass. “Take me on a roller, I’m a coaster,” a smooth vocal beckoning appears, swelling into an ardent expanse with fuzzy guitar distortion and multi-vocal anthemic appeal.

“Set me alight and cover me in oil,” the vocals let out there, swelling into scorching guitar lines. A dreamier bridge later on — “welcome to inferno you say” — also consumes in its tonal serenity, then arriving into another delectably rousing “set me alight” refrain. “Rollercoaster” is a wholly impressive debut from The Venus Children.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
