Audren – ‘Think Freedom’

An eclectic, poetic journey of persisting throughout tumult, Think Freedom is the soulful indie-pop album from French singer-songwriter Audren. Backed by caressing strings, colorful organs, and eclectic guitar work alongside Audren’s excellent vocals, the project delivers complex, polished arrangements that confront our turbulent world with an uplifting message of resilience and joy.

A gorgeous album starter, “A New Page” is exemplary of Audren’s dynamic structural ability. “Over the meadows, the birds are singing,” a multi-layered vocal harmonious exudes with meditative appeal amidst gentle acoustics. The subsequent doses of heartfelt strings are beautiful, reminding fondly of Blur’s “The Universal” in its mix of balladry and string vibrancy. “The Good Road” follows with a solemn electric guitar moodiness, as Audren’s vocals ask “do you like to lose control?” as pulsing bass and click-clacking rhythms emerge. “Will you make my dream come true?” the magnetic vocals continue, moving into heady, psychedelic guitar twangs. Think Freedom wastes no time establishing a memorably eclectic and melodic appeal with this strong opening one-two punch.

The quality songwriting and productions continue consistently from there. “A Beautiful Move” is a particular standout, dazzling in its suave guitar links, colorful organs, and retro-friendly synths. “Hello people, you know we need a break,” Audren’s stirring vocals let out, met by strings that here unveil a hypnotic quality in the vein of Massive Attack. This synth and strings bolster a fantastic vocal presence, for a lovely blend of funk, chamber-pop, and rock. Think Freedom is an infectious, artfully accomplished full-length success from Audren.
