Bones of the Sun – ‘Songs from the Garden’ EP

Awash in lush acoustics and hazy layers, Songs from the Garden is the solo debut EP from Danish project Bones of the Sun. The self-produced record weaves serene guitars and affecting vocal harmonies with other consuming elements, like touches of brass and keys, while creating an intimate, meditative soundscape that balances raw vulnerability and melodic immediacy.

Opening the EP, “The First” weaves lush acoustics and twangy hypnotics for a blissfully meditative sound. Dreamy vocal adornments arrive at midpoint, reminding fondly of Avalanches in the ability to fuse ethereal vocal work with hazy, psychedelic layers. “Oscillate” comes next, similarly serene with its trickling guitars and balmy vocal harmonies, arriving into a “see the light” sense of optimism with slight synth infusions. The EP’s opening two tracks establish a riveting, gently alluring knack for soundscapes that persists enjoyably throughout the EP.

“I Wish I Knew” is another delight. Caressing vocals meld with steady guitar work for an absorbing gentleness, its “wish I knew” refrain met by twangy guitar appeal and then a twinkling key-laden send-off. The ensuing “My Song” closes the EP with playful prowess, commencing with sounds of children laughing and playing, and then expanding from gorgeously wordless vocal work into warm brass-touched entrancement. Songs from the Garden is a lushly immersive success of an EP from Bones of the Sun.

“I Wish I Knew” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
