OBLIK OBLOKI – “Eyes and Ears”

Taking inspiration from electronic legends Yellow Magic Orchestra, “Eyes and Ears” is the excellent debut single from Netherlands-based act OBLIK OBLOKI. Playfully understated synths complement a retrospective vocal spirit to start, recollecting a memory of being on “the edge of my bed, practicing Radiohead on my guitar” a decade earlier. Ruminations on modern and artistic pressures — and the overall role of an artistic identity — combine with flourishes of dreamy synths, and into a “I wish I was just eyes and ears” yearning. The coming-of-age perspectives and thematic tracing of artistic self stir throughout, with brass-laden infusions bolstering the infectious synths and rhythmic pulses. “Eyes and Ears” is a standout salutation from OBLIK OBLOKI.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
