Montreal-based composer Pat Piperni‘s original piano piece “Stardust” crafts a lovely, meditative space-minded realm. Combining Andy Rumble’s impactful piano performance with Piperni’s ambient pad arrangements, the track balances twinkling keys and futuristic textures, thematically exploring human existence within the vast cosmos, capturing a soothing sense of weightlessness to offer listeners a comforting, contemplative solace.
A gorgeously elegant interplay of twinkling piano and lushly caressing ambient pads sets the track into motion. A heightened melodic shift stirs just past the one-minute mark, moving between deeper, grounded tones and moments of starry-eyed wonderment, while the backing pads maintain a consistently lush entrancement. A mixture of prancing chords and effervescent single notes delights within the enveloping composition. There’s a spacey, futuristic quality apparent in the backing pads, while the lead piano emits a more neo-classical grace.
Piperni previously caught our ears this past February with the track “Quiet Storm,” which achieved a similarly enchanting sound in its interactions between piano and ambient pads, the former fondly resembling Ryuichi Sakamoto’s most understated classical-leaning works. Apt to its name, “Stardust” enthralls within a more space-minded atmospheric realm, finding a fluid balance between the layered instrumentation. With both these tracks, Piperni shows a clear talent in crafting unmistakably memorable soundscapes, full of emotion and life.
