fina – “Daydreaming”

An impactful rumination on youthful glory days becoming a mere memory, “Daydreaming” is a stirring track from fina, the project of Jack Jobst, a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer based in Brooklyn by way of Maryland. The track infuses emotive lyricism with a cohesively melodic array of synths and guitars.

A heartfelt, nostalgic yearning unveils right away, as the vocals reminisce: “Never want to go back inside. Mom said to play while it’s light.” Ensuing hopes to “freeze time and live like the mountain was in front of me” are particularly resonant, moving from the warming recollections of childhood summers to the stark realization that those fond days are now mere memories and daydream fodder. An enveloping final “I’m daydreaming” refrain consumes, where accounts of growing older as “the days keep spinning” furthers that relatable grasp for days long past.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
