Brighton, UK-based composer and producer Gabriel Zingiber delivers an expansive journey on “Lighthouse,” weaving intricate acoustic beginnings, shifting syncopated rhythms, and organ-tinted psychedelia. The multi-phased arrangement seamlessly transforms from serene folk-pop harmonies into heavy, blues-infused classic rock explorations.
A trickling sensation of acoustic guitars kicks off “Lighthouse” with quiet intrigue, expanding seamlessly into a colorful array of instrumentation. Frolicking piano and hectic start-stop rhythms maneuver with infectious vigor, followed by caressing wordless choral harmonies, soaring and grandiose in their soothingly impactful glow. The expressive lead melody emerges following a momentary halt in instrumentation, and from there the production navigates a variety of tonally dynamic, stylishly effective twists and turns.
Among the many standout moments is the transition from a subdued, murky delivery to psychedelic, organ-touched haunts. Tender guitar work combines there for a dreamily inviting appeal, laid-back yet emotively impactful. The ensuing ascent to twangy guitar enthrallment signals another build-up, taking off into the final three minutes, where glimpses of heavier rock fall into hypnotic harmonica and cawing seagulls—evoking the song’s seaside imagery—before a lovely hybrid of rollicking guitars and spurts of harmonica interact. “Lighthouse” is a tour-de-force of a track from Gabriel Zingiber, who also impressed us last year with his single “Marigold.”
