พังและแพง – ‘หัดขับรถ’

หัดขับรถ, the serene new EP from Thai electronic project พังและแพง, releases on September 4th. Inspired by the rigid discipline of learning to drive, the record balances strict rhythmic grids with jazz-influenced harmonies. Using vintage software (like abandonware VSTs) and early-morning field recordings, it delivers a lush, introspective dance music experience.

“วันฝัน” opens the EP with enchanting allure, weaving layers of glimmering, spacey synths for a blissful entrancement. Slight rhythmic pitter-patter immerses alongside as various electronic elements move in, then embracing a bouncier percussive presence past the one-minute turn, where bird-chirping effects land seamlessly. The lounge-y keys and spacey synths combine throughout for a hypnotic listening experience. Up next, “สะอาดกว่า สูงกว่า” struts a heavier rhythmic edge and grimier synths right away, playing as a nocturnal force compared to the more daytime-set brightness of the opener. They both share a knack for dreamily inviting, melodic charm, though.

Another memorable track, “ทรงกลมแห่งพาลีเนีย” delivers a vibrant, arpeggiated lushness. Mellow piano infusions pair with magnetic synths and breath-y wordless vocal elements, making for another atmospheric gem. “ตีสี่” succeeds in a different realm, with a jazzy, plucky charm progressing amidst more natural instrumentation, enthralling in the art-pop aesthetic. EP finale “มหาสมุทรเดียว” ensues, its throbbing rhythms and tropical-friendly synths casting an effervescent, book-ending spell. หัดขับรถ is a serene electronic success from พังและแพง.
