Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Nitzani delivers a gritty alternative-rock debut on “Cry Baby.” Blending distorted, expressive guitars with flourishes of synths, the track pairs an intense, unapologetically raw vocal performance with an introspective narrative confronting the exhaustion of adulthood and constant caretaking. The release marks the first single from Nitzani’s upcoming debut EP.
A fuzzy resonance opens the track, quickly followed by a fervently contemplative vocal feeling. “My life is a fucking mess, since I started walking. What the hell is going on?” the shouty vocal presence exudes, shifting to a more melodic, understated “you want everyone to hold you” remarking as ruminating rhythms and slight guitar twangs move forth. “Why can’t I hide?” they escalate into a memorable chorus, reminiscent of Wolf Alice in the distortion-laden “not by your side” bite.
“I know where you…” the vocals then unveil an anthemic, hooky vigor, bolstered by playful touches of synths alongside the angular, distorted guitar enjoyment. The track’s production stirs in its continuous sense of momentum, swelling seamlessly from the initially shouty demeanor to the yearning “to be alone,” complemented by ardent guitar power. A dreamy “can’t just walk away without you” bridge also delights, showcasing a serenely affecting shift before free-flowing guitar experimentation, satiating in its spontaneity. “Cry Baby” is a rousing rock standout from Nitzani.
