The Natural Curve – “Silly Girl”

UK producer Paul Cullen’s electronic project, The Natural Curve, charms with the infectious single “Silly Girl.” Pushing further into retro synth-pop territory than ever before, the track balances steady percussion and punchy electro-bass with the bold, youthfully melodic vocals of Liberty Taylor. The production embodies Cullen’s signature, soul-first aesthetic, delivering a replay-inducing blend of stirring vocal hooks, twinkling piano, and vibrant, multi-layered synths.

Steady percussion and a punchy electro-bass immersion combine right away, and persist in their infectious interaction throughout. “I don’t care what you’re thinking. I never learned anyway,” a debonair, soulful vocal presence lets out, with ensuing references to a trigger-finger and “scopes set on you” exuding a dangerous yet smitten entrancement. A glimmering backing synth pad illuminates the mix as the vocals maneuver into a “silly girl, will I ever learn?” hook — gradually accompanied by new vocal layers and playful flourishing of additional electronics.

A palpable sense of momentum ignites as the vocals fervently ask “don’t you see you’re out of time?” and beckoning to “change my mind.” Twinkling piano tones add seamlessly there, melodic and caressing, while the vocals excel in the mixture of the soaring lead and cut-up backing rhythmic effects. A catchy, stylish standout, “Silly Girl” is an excellent output from The Natural Curve.
