An absorbing new single from Jodi DiPiazza, “Another Anyone” turns being underestimated into a soulful statement of self-worth, pairing her classically trained coloratura soprano with piano, guitars, and a live-band arrangement she wrote herself. DiPiazza first gained international attention performing alongside Katy Perry, Weird Al Yankovic, and Cynthia Erivo.
A soulful combination of twangy guitars and lush piano opens the track, seamlessly leading into DiPiazza’s affecting lead voice. “You never gave me a second glance, you made it clear that I had no chance,” she sings with soulful immersion, casting feelings of solitude initially, though also perseverance as she delivers “now I’m standing in the light” alongside solemn organs. The soaring vocal moments are stirring throughout, both in the “real me” bridge and the ensuing hook, where responsive wordless backing harmonies bolster her riveting lead, contemplating “i wonder what you’re thinking now” following accounts of heartbreak and subsequent self-confidence.
The production is an all-out success, absorbing in the main chorus especially, and also in an enveloping bridge approaching the final minute; tender guitars and backing harmonies delight there. A renewed momentum appears in the next segment, where a spirited delivery conveys ardent self-power in “now the world can see me shine, seems like the last laugh’s truly mine.” An impassioned, soulful success, “Another Anyone” is a standout track from Jodi DiPiazza.
