Featuring tenor saxophone alongside layered harmonies, horns, and strings, the track transforms emotional exhaustion into an uplifting, full-ensemble sunburst of gratitude and summer catharsis.
A vintage-sounding acoustic guitar warmth emanates right away, complemented by a mellow bass and percussive backing. Honold’s delivery follows with lush melodic introspection, admitting that “sometimes I feel like I’m all out of love.” The comparison of a “waterfall” to the sudden sensation of love is artfully accomplished, apparent in the declaration “I let you hit me like a waterfall.” Honold’s use of tenor saxophone, which he has formal training in, eases in beautifully thereafter, combining with the “stir your soul my brother” beckoning for an illuminated, hopeful sense of personal restoration.
The saxophone-laden hook continues to immerse in “keep searching for the summer” harmoniousness, featuring a memorable vocal pairing that reaches another affecting “let it hit you like a waterfall” free-flowing charisma. The “let it flow” soaring delivery is particularly enthralling in the final minute, where lovely harmonic layering and brassy exuberance combine wonderfully before resolving into an acoustic-led finale. “Waterfall” is another impactful output from Kevin Honold, who has also caught our ears in the past with tracks like “Everything” and “Saturday Night.”
