A peppy garage-rock and power-pop convergence shines on “Closeout,” a rousing new track from Someday. They describe the release as “about those moments when you feel distant from God and are trying to find your way back.” Pulsing guitar riffs and anguished vocals, lamenting states of being “broken” and drowning,” excel to a soaring captivation in the ensuing hook: “And I’m holding on / But I’m slipping under.”
Whirring guitars complement that fervent section, conveying a state of personal tumult, but also a strong drive to hold on and find their way back. The band adds: “The title comes from the surfing term “closeout,” which is a wave that breaks all at once instead of peeling gradually. For us, the song is ultimately a prayer from that place of feeling overwhelmed and searching for closeness again.”
