Afternoon Sister – “Ache”

Described as a track “about feeling lost and wanting someone to pull you out of it,” “Ache” is an absorbing rocker from Afternoon Sister. Led by singer-songwriter Alice Ventura, the band’s balancing of raw guitar-laden invigoration with lusher textures makes for a resonating sound, drawing from influences that span from Chromatics and Air to Mazzy Star and Neil Young.

Bursts of guitar twangs open the production, complemented by sturdy acoustic strums as Ventura’s lush delivery enters. “All in all, you have truly warned me,” the hypnotic lead presence lets out, beckoning to “take me from this place.” The ensuing “I’ve become a joke in their eyes” line is stellar in the intertwining of serene backing harmonies, bolstering the already-evident rock entrancement. “Ache” is a memorably atmospheric rock success from Afternoon Sister.
