“Pain of Us” is an excellent new track from Washington, DC-based artist LTMAA, here exploring the weight of collective suffering through moody trip-hop production, nocturnal electronic textures, and a soulful delivery. Inspired by global trauma and the urgency of shared humanity, the track balances stark social reflection with a hypnotic groove and an underlying sense of hope.
A hypnotic percussive pulse, melding snare and clap precision, evolves into a moody performance enthrallment. “Don’t know what to feel anymore,” LTMAA’s smooth presence lets out, met by a mellow bass line that melds seamlessly with the nocturnal electronic simmering in the background. The subdued yet melodic bass line pairs with the spacey ambience, enveloping lead presence, and steady rhythms for an alluring trip-hop intoxication. A more pit-pattering rhythmic form unveils past the first minute, then venturing into a heightened pitch around 01:45 that develops beautifully into a rhythmic re-emergence as “the circle of love” is lyrically referenced.
Twangy guitar prancing follows around midpoint, maintaining the production’s late-night atmosphere and stylish interactions of instrumentation. LTMAA’s lead presence maintains a consistently absorbing tone throughout, again escalating in pitch around 02:40 with spine-tingling results. Dazzling across both moments of laid-back atmospheric intrigue and more upfront soulfulness in delivery, “Pain of Us” is a standout track from LTMAA.
