Shimmering guitar twangs and a post-punk bass propulsion compel on “Collapsing Narcissist,” representing the first single from Random Parade‘s upcoming album, Think Happy Thoughts. From its steady rock hookiness to a sharp shift just before the two-minute mark, playful in its pulsing guitars and “reached the end of the line” lead finality, “Collapsing Narcissist” consumes from start to finish.
Led by songwriter, singer and guitarist Gregory Christopher, Random Parade engage fully here with a mixture of jangling guitars, sturdy rhythms, and introspective melodic presence, thematically playing as “a character study of an enormous ego beginning to collapse under its own weight, with just enough restrained satisfaction from the sidelines.” The project adds: “Beneath the humor is a question the song never quite answers: would a true narcissist ever recognize that they were responsible for their own downfall?”
