Melaku – ‘Golden Age’ EP

Just a few weeks ago, “Lost Your Lover” showed Melaku, a rising act from Santa Cruz, as a name to look out for — using bouncy keys and emotive string arrangements alongside a melodic vocal delivery on the catching track. It was received well, so it seems prudent to give notice that Melaku’s new EP, Golden Age, is available to stream in full above. It’s also available on Spotify here. Melaku’s debut album shows itself as an origin story of sorts through the different chakras, with each track representative of “one of the seven spiritual centres of the human body.” He incorporates a fondness for music of the past – specifically the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s – into a fresh vein of pop with soul and rock influence. From “Lost Your Lover” to successes like “Red Room” and “Love You Like a Lion”, Golden Age is a worthwhile listen.
