Rally Club – “Haveyouever”

//

Released on Friday, “Haveyouever” is a suave success from Rally Club, a band from San Diego drawing inspiration from “riff-rock, chorus-drenched surf, and beer-fueled garage jams.” In the verses, the vocals emit a sort of post-punk nonchalance, reminiscent of early Interpol (and – in turn – Joy Division), over a rumbling bass line and glossy rhythm guitars. 01:30 marks an excitable twist, where various vocal layers rise in intensity alongside a quivering guitar tone. Shades of swaggering post-punk, cool surf-rock, and infectious power-pop are all present here to some degree, helping to craft a moody and addictive track in “Haveyouever” that places Rally Club firmly on my radar.

“Haveyouever” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Shoegaze / Post-Punk / Dream-Pop.
