Denver-based psych-rock trio Moonlight Bloom released their new album, American Impressionism, on January 31st. An enjoyably varied, textural psychedelic rock sound is on display throughout, from more hypnotic build-ups like “Cloud Temple” and “Old Oak” to raucously up-front gems like “Firestorm” and “Release.” The latter is particularly impressive. 00:37 marks a fluid guitar-based adventuring that provides a preview of later expansion, with a minute later ushering in haunting vocals and thickly reverberating guitar lines. A roaring guitar distantly assembles a consuming textural pull as the track comes to a close, with sweltering distortion adding to the suaveness.
The band writes: “The song ‘Release’ is about how music itself embodies a divine feminine energy that can be alluring and enchanting.”
