SHORT BITS – #19

David Bowie made a surprise appearance at David Gilmour’s show on the 29th at the sold-out Royal Albert Hall in London. He played Pink Floyd classics ‘Arnold Layne’ and ‘Comfortably Numb’. It must have been a thrill, and apparently the people who were there were seen with their jaws wide open. I don’t blame them. Even David Crosby and Graham Nash made an appearance. Talk about a great night ( source ).

Also, our deepest condolences to reggae legend, Desmond Dekker, who died last Friday of a heart attack at the age of 64.

As it turns out, Babyshambles are not in shambles after all. They are busy working on some new tracks for their second album, which is tentatively set to be released in early 2007. A press statement from the band says they want to get the legal troubles behind them and focus on the music. Imagine that! ( source )

More charades from Morrissey! While on stage at Oxford’s New Theatre, Morrissey proclaimed to his fans, “If you agree with vivisection, go and be vivisected upon yourself.” He then mockingly told an animal testing lab at Oxford University: “We will get you!” I guess protesting the seals is not enough. Perhaps the next long-titled Moz epic song for his new album Lonesome Vegans should be ‘Vivisections Do Not Cause Erections’… I think he can only be wittier ( source ).

A collaboration that sounds good on paper: The Go! Team want to collaborate with My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields to help produce their second album. I am hoping this happens just as much as they do ( source ). The Open have split after two fairly good albums ( source ). Islands’ drummer, J’aime Tambeur has decided to leave the band. “The fact is that I don’t need to be in a band anymore,” he said. He continued to say it has nothing to do with relationships with other members, but it was a personal choice. Islands will continue with their regular routine without him ( source ).

I hope I am not the only one who has been tired of Courtney Love showboating Kurt Cobain’s death for her own personal benefit and financial keeping. Her new ‘novel’, “Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love” will expose some interesting things about Cobain. She needs to put it to rest, where it belongs ( source ).
