Apparently written by frontman Mikael MPTHY whilst in the midst of a night terror, “The Golden Boy” details an anxiety-filled experience where loved ones express disappointment, an unshakable psychosis takes over, and inner demons chase one from dream to dream. With MPTHY’s ’80s-reminiscent synth-pop/goth-tinged delivery in mind, it’s the sort of darkness one would expect from professed influences like Depeche Mode and The Cure. Off the group’s new album of the same name, “The Golden Boy” shows an animated display of dark synth-pop, with aptly quivering vocals that drill home the sincerity of the anxieties conveyed in the lyrics.
