Swedish act Stars in Coma have been one of my favorite pop finds of the past few years, with a knack for melodic hooks and soaring arrangements that present easily digestible ear candy. “By the Memorial Urn” is a track that still gets stuck in my head, three years later. On that note, I’m pleased to showcase new material from the band, who just released a new album, Escapist Partisans, available now on Spotify. I’m particularly fond of its third track, “Subtraction Exercises”, where André Brorsson’s vocals work seamlessly alongside hazy guitars and keyboard reflections. The hook arriving at 01:21 – “I look to the sea” – is typical Stars in Coma goodness. Escapist Partisans is strongly recommended listening, and this track is a nice place to start.
