Rebel ACA & French Monkey Wrench – “African James Bond”

Fondly taking a cue from Gorillaz’ early days, “African James Bond” is a consuming new track from Rebel ACA & French Monkey Wrench, featuring suave hip-hop beginnings that navigate into a smooth chorus more reminiscent of British indie-rock. They explain: “It’s a song about a friend of ours that suffered with depression. We have worked with him on a previous project and he is a very talented musician – but for various reason he lost his way… “you’ve lost your song, and I’ve lost a friend” says the chorus.”

“He is a James Bond type character – a seriously cool dude – so that’s where the song name comes from – and musically the song draws on many different influences, with this driving rhythm – so we called it AFRICAN JAMES BOND… to represent that.”

The duo met nearly 15 years ago, and alongside “African James Bond” have a new track in “John Wayne” – with a similar stylistic approach – streaming below:
