Lazyear – “I Guess It’s Not (the end of the world)”

/

Lazyear’s new track “I Guess It’s Not (the end of the world)” reminds me of multiple favorites — the East London-based artist touts a Bowie-like quiver in his vocals (the “ashes to ashes,” lyrical bit in the catchy hook certainly brings that out, too), while the playful synth-laden melody recalls Future Islands and a hint of LCD Soundsystem. As the artist’s first single, “I Guess It’s Not (the end of the world)” is a delightful effort, one that provides doses of nostalgia in the aesthetic alongside wholly original songwriting that emphasizes hooks and colorful melodies. I look forward to more from Lazyear, for sure.

“I Guess It’s Not (the end of the world)” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Catchy Indie Pop.
