Simon D James – “My Everything”

//

“My Everything” is a striking track from the get-go. Anxious string pulsations burst over a mellower acoustical backing, the strings fading as Simon D James’ confident vocals enter the fold. The Brighton-based artist, who impressed early this year with the track “Dearest Lovely World,” shows a grandiose and anthemic sound here that stirs the soul. “Safe in my everything,” he repeats during the entrancing chorus, accompanied by haunting backing vocals that reflect his own. Shades of Owen Pallett, Arcade Fire, The National, and Andrew Bird are there, though overall James produces a sound entirely his own. “My Everything” is thoroughly consuming in its emotional ferocity.

“My Everything” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the very selective, best-of Spotify compilation Best Tracks of 2018.
