Walkie Talkie – “Jellybean”

//

Walkie Talkie are the duo of Yuval Katz and Tomer Borenstein. The project was formed in Haifa, Israel, and on new track “Jellybean” showcases a sound resembling parts Super Furry Animals and parts Toro y Moi. There’s a likeness to the former in the initial moments, the twangy guitars soon accompanied by swanky-sounding keys. The catchy chirpiness in the vocal lead plays especially well as the escalating melody around 01:10 takes hold — later falling with comfort into a lush “you’re my jellybean,” segment with some R&B yearning, this time on the more Toro y Moi spectrum. “Jellybean” is a fun, catchy gem from Walkie Talkie.

“Jellybean” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Rock.
