Kohla – “S/He”

Influenced by acts like FKA Twigs, Banks. and Lorde, Kohla is an emerging artist with a knack for striking vocals and consuming soundscapes, within an aesthetic in the realm of electronic alternative R&B/pop. The initial verses are a showcase of Kohla’s vocals, strutting a suavely yearning tone. The pause 50 seconds in, featuring a ghostly vocal sample, accommodates the entry of percussion and a haunting backing vocal performance. Lead vocals emerge thereafter, meshing cohesively with the backing effect. Hypnotic, quaintly infectious, and atmospherically dark, “S/He” is a success from an artist who’s poised to rise.

“S/He” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Lush Indie Electro.
