Astronaut – “Inside an Atom”

“Inside an Atom” is our first peek at Astronaut’s forthcoming debut album Silence One. It’s a great representation of the band’s hypnotic, atmospheric sound. Sparse, lush beginnings evolve into a rhythmically consuming groove after the 30-second mark, with a wash of synths at 01:12 signaling another melodic shift that reminds of Tame Impala’s spaciest work. The mid-section onward continues the aforementioned atmospheric strengths, especially as the vocals dissolve in the final minute in favor of a murkily successful assortment of precise rhythms and synth-laden additions. “Inside an Atom” feels like blissfully being lost in space, apt considering the project’s name.

“Inside an Atom” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2019’ Spotify playlist.
