Premiere: Current Eternal – “Was Anything Ever Done?”

//

We’re happy to premiere the latest track from Current Eternal, the project of London-based composer/instrumentalist/singer Nikky French, who impressed last year with the track “Save the Day.” “Was Anything Ever Done?” continues the artist’s impressive ability to concoct intriguing electronic-minded soundscapes. “I’ve always been fascinated with the area between past/future, organic/synthetic, reality/fiction,” Nikky says. “We are all living in a world where the lines are increasingly blurring between them all. It is both exciting and scary. I wanted my sound to in part reflect these dualities.”

The track is “inspired by a question Leonardo Da Vinci Kept asking himself in his notebooks throughout his life, ‘Tell me, was anything ever done?’ It seemed pertinent today as I imagined people looking back at us and asking the same,” Nikky explains. Trickling synths comprise the track’s background to start, as yearning vocals and lush piano build into a sound that expands into spacey engrossment by the 40-second mark. From here, the track is full of memorable vocal melodies, atmospheric production, and creative turns. “Was Anything Ever Done?” is a fully engaging success.

“Was Anything Ever Done?” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Innovative Electronic Music.
