Video: Ellen Warkentine – “Too Rich”

/

“Too Rich” is the third and latest chapter of Ellen Warkentine’s engrossing Nonsense Mouth series, covered in March with “Thanatos” and “Nonsense Mouth.” The release explores “the heroine’s journey and themes of identity and individuation.”

Entrancing brass and light keys start off “Too Rich,” with Warkentine’s lush vocal presence emerging in a way that reminds fondly of ’60s pop. Meanwhile, the striking video features merging images with a cool, nocturnal range of red-fronted colors. 01:38 sees a gorgeous expansion into brass-laden beauty, with the vocals subsiding a bit to emphasize the instrumentation’s growth. The vocals are more passionate from here on out, aptly accompanying the increasing vibrancy of the brass and rhythm section. The “you can’t take it, you can’t have it all,” repetition works with emotional fervor. Another fantastic video from this series, accompanying a track that’s the artist’s most vibrant to date.

“Too Rich” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2019’ Spotify playlist.
