The stunning “a room in the mirror” is a showcase in atmosphere and glistening melodic expansion from ralph rodolen, an artist from Norway. Not much is known about the project, though the tracks available on Soundcloud show a fantastic talent. In particular, “a room in the mirror” succeeds in several facets. Creeping vocals and a clunking, nocturnal soundscape start things off, with glistening synths and swelling rhythms emerging past the 30-second mark. The vocals are somewhat sparse throughout, though resoundingly effective when present — either as backing, rhythmic component or a spine-chilling showing of emotive yearning. This is a haunting, thoroughly gripping accomplishment from an artist that’s likely to ascend quickly.
