Yaehsun – “La De Ba” (with Jose Contreras)

//

The lush, melodically memorable track “La De Ba” is the second collaboration between Canadian artists Jason Haberman (Yaehsun) and Jose Contreras (of By Divine Right). The track is described as “an ode to the summer, warmth, sun, coffee, waiting for it to return, again and again.” That’s a great description for the audible sensations relayed here. “La De Ba” exudes a yearning, summery quality that has me returning. In terms of production, I’m reminded of Caribou’s Andorra, similarly capturing a psych-friendly sound with shimmering tendencies. “La De Ba” pursues a more chugging rock-friendly backbone, complements of the strong bass line and fleeting tuiart ones, though the psych-friendly keys certainly play an atmospheric role. The “covered in roses,” vocal repetition throughout is also a hypnotic force. “La De Ba” is a great track to mellow into the weekend with.

“La De Ba” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Rock.
