Husbands – “3AM”

//

The delightfully jangly “3AM” is an infectious success from Husbands, the second single off the duo’s second LP, After the Gold Rush Party, releasing in January 2020. The project is comprised of Seattle-based Danny and OKC-based Will.

Shimmering guitar jangles and slight synth backing complement a serene vocal presence to start, exuding a summery and soaring feel. 01:06 sees a fantastic transition into more contemplative, emotive heights; a melancholic feel emits as the vocals sing “try again,” amidst the chugging rhythms and guitar twangs. The track touts a variety of hooks — from the shimmering, summery section to the more yearning moment that follows. “3AM” is a great piece of songwriting and production from Husbands.

Will says: “‘3AM’ is about persistence: we’ve come into “realer” jobs, families have gotten more complicated, & we’re still finding time to write music in the nooks & crannies of our life. ‘3AM’ is about that.”

“3AM” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Rock.
