Shyclops – “Runaway”

/

Emitting a yearning, nostalgic ’80s synth-pop tone, “Runaway” is a pleasantly melodic track from Shyclops, their debut single. The Indonesian act craft a warming pop feel with a constant synth arp, fluttering vocals, and playful percussion. The track’s repetitive structure lends well to its hypnotic aesthetic, valuing a consistently enchanting feel as opposed to melodic variation. Occasionally that would be an issue, though with “Runaway” the overall vibes and nostalgia is enough to compensate. The project aims to capture the feeling of “riding beside sandy beach towards the sunset,” with the track, and that feels like a success.

“Runaway” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Catchy Electro and Synth-Pop.
