Split Screens – “From the Start”

/

Following the impressive “Back Again” last month, Split Screens released an EP last week containing that track and other gems. The six tracks on Everyday Static emphasize the gripping songwriting of the San Francisco-based artist. “From the Start” shows Jesse Cafiero’s knack for invigorating builds-up, recalling Timber Timbre tonally. The heaviest track on the EP, “From the Start” features a striking lap steel solo in the final 1/3, following a rousing series of warmly engaging melodies with touches of psych, Americana, and soul. The guitar featuring around 02:51 aids the track into a fantastic conclusion.

Cafiero plays all the instruments on the track, apart from Tycho drummer Rory O’Connor and percussionist Geneva Harrison of Bells Atlas. The track’s video, above, is well worth watching. Per Cafiero: “I animated this video by hand shooting frame by frame using over a hundred collage cutouts from the 1950’s and 60’s.”
