Psychic Shakes – “Nightplay”

/

Described as “a brief insight into the lonely nights of an insomniac,” “Nightplay” is a consuming new track from Psychic Shakes. Resembling a chilled-out version of Cut Copy, “Nightplay” impresses with its nocturnal soundscape and melodic construction. The “tell me how the night plays out when you’re not around,” vocal bit sees a slight drop in pitch that contrasts well with the higher-pitched synth arps around the two-minute mark. The track does great in balancing infectious synth-pop arps with more contemplative, spacey and nocturnal vibes. “Nightplay” is another success from Psychic Shakes, who first impressed with the track “Wasting Time” in 2016.

“It’s a song essentially about me processing the information of the day, eventually falling asleep as the sun comes up, and then seeing my girlfriend leave for work in the morning just as I drift off,” the artist says of the track.

“Nightplay” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Lush Indie Electronic.
