Perfect Blue – “Guilty”

/

Chicago-based six-piece Perfect Blue impressed with the dreamy “Wicked” last July. New track “Guilty” shows a darker, more energetic spectrum — unleashing a gripping vein of dark alternative-rock. Just after the one-minute mark, a striking vocal escalation begins with hauntingly climactic lyrics – “waiting for a ghost to reappear,” – playing with passion alongside the bustling rhythms and organ spurts. Vocalist Trish Zulueta shines here and throughout the track. The “I run,” mid-section bridge adds enjoyable variation to the brooding feel, which escalates during the concluding “trying to hide,” vocal growling. “Guilty” is a great display from Perfect Blue, showcasing an equally effective alt-rock counterpart to their dreamier past release.

“Guilty” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2020’ Spotify playlist.
