Cave Flowers – “Midnight Movie”

//

Off their new eponymous LP, Cave Flowers’ track “Midnight Movie” captivates with caressing pedal steel twangs and gripping vocals, growing from quivering escalation to emotive retrospection. “Midnight Movie” chugs along with easy-going enjoyment, with shades of John Prine and Willie Nelson, strong influences for songwriter Andy McAllister. An endearing guitar solo at 01:50 ushers the track into its second half, at which point the melody remains comfortingly familiar, beyond a closing bridge that enjoyably resembles Wilco. The band’s new LP is certainly recommended, with quality Americana like “Midnight Movie” throughout.

“Midnight Movie” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2020’ Spotify playlist.
