The Great Dictators – “Play Dead Together”

/

“Play Dead Together” is a track released today from Copenhagen-based rock trio The Great Dictators. Citing acts like Yo La Tengo, Psychedelic Furs, and Brian Eno as influences, the band shows a textured, melodic vein of rock on this release. Releasing ahead of the band’s upcoming full-length One Eye Opener on 4/17 (via Celebration Records), “Play Dead Together” shows a patiently reverberating bass-fronted sound in the initial verses. The suave vocals are accompanied by murky, industrial tones around 01:30, with fuzzy synths emerging shortly thereafter and adding a fun dynamic. “Play Dead Together” sounds enjoyably nostalgic in its confidently chugging laid-back rock approach, while also offering a slew of inventive ideas.

“Play Dead Together” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
