Night Columns – “Experiment In Error”

///

From Night Columns’ debut self-titled EP, “Experiment In Error” is a stylish and catching success. The contrast between the murky lead’s nonchalance and the backing, more spirited vocal fondly recalls Prefab Sprout’s sophisti-pop vibe, especially during the “what’s your poison?” echoing hook. This Los Angeles-based project shows melodic and atmospheric pull throughout, the latter especially prominent during the track’s second half. Three minutes in, a gripping nocturnal allure is established via twangy guitars and clanking percussion, for a very ’80s feel.

Stream the rest of the EP below, with another gem being “Hello, It Hurts” and its Pet Shop Boys-esque vibes:

“Experiment In Error” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Electro-Pop.
