Jessica Genius – “Sugar Shady”

/

Impressing this past October with the track “Living a Lie,” new act Jessica Genius return with another gem. “Sugar Shady” chugs along with a suave satisfaction, with skidding synths and rhythmic expansion coming as the one-minute mark approaches. The contrast between the suaver verses, charismatic bridge, and buzzing spontaneity of the chorus makes for a track that is stimulating throughout. The “she’s building a tower,” line signals a series of additional fun shifts, like the old-timey piano lead-in around 02:30. “Sugar Shady” shows excellent range in seamless form, continuing on the success of “Living a Lie.”

“Sugar Shady” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2020’ Spotify playlist.
