Premiere: Jessica Genius – “Living a Lie”

“Living a Lie” is a track out today from Jessica Genius, a project comprised of current and former members of Joywave and Kopps. A lonesome guitar twang and flickering synths fade as the halted vocals approach. A playful, jerky lead builds into the clanking build-up past the one-minute mark, where acoustics emerge as an additional factor. “Living a Lie” is an infectiously suave success, with melodies and layers that build cohesively and with precision.

“The song is an attempt to capture the feeling of regret,” says project members Jessica and Andy. “The mistakes that haunt you at 3am (the spookiest part of my Halloween). Evyn Morgan is responsible for the photography which is as integral as the lyrics or music is to the release.”

“Living a Lie” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2019’ Spotify playlist.
