Mohamed Assani’s new album Wayfinder presents a hypnotic, atmospheric journey that highlights the Vancouver-based artist’s songwriting and sitar-playing abilities. The sounds of resonating sitar mesh cohesively with sounds and textures with an electronic tint, as evidenced by opening track “Awakening.” A serene synth arp undercurrent is accompanied by gliding sitar, expanding into a resonating, brisker force as the five-minute point approaches. The track’s final one-third is a densely stimulating endeavor that succeeds in many facets. “Awakening” sets a great tone early on for the album, which can be streamed in full below:
