B. Disco – “Lens”

/

“Lens” struts a catchy synth-pop sound with a DIY charm, recorded and produced from B. Disco’s home studio in the Netherlands. If you’re a fan of moody ’80s synth-pop, in the vein of OMD, in addition to modern-day bedroom-pop mavens like Ariel Pink and John Maus, this is certainly a track that should ascend your list of priorities. Bouncy synths melodically complement a strong vocal lead, showing both suave post-punk and excitable synth-pop flavor. “Lens” exudes catchiness and aesthetic confidence throughout.

“It centers a somewhat sordid narrative around a frustrated protagonist who plans and executes a violent act towards humanity in response to feelings of alienation,” B. Disco says of the track. “‘Lens’ is a playful satire on the era of social media, written after my own experiences trying to market my music (and failing in doing so), symbolized by having Reddit’s upvote button as cover art.”

“Lens” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Electro-Pop.
