Gravity Circus – “Shuteye”

/

“Shuteye” is a moody pop success from Gravity Circus, a Dutch duo formed in 2016. Acoustics and perky vocals assemble a consuming intro, with murky rhythms expanding after the 30-second mark. The track’s “shuteye,” chorus shows a coolness reminiscent of ’90s alternative, emerging in the first minute and gripping easily. 01:41 marks an atmospheric bridge led by quaint guitars, expanding seamlessly thereafter into the title-referencing hook. “Shuteye” is an enjoyable success from Gravity Circus.

“The song is about a life of solitude & alienation, all while craving for a new start and overthink on the past, that now hurts to think about,” the band writes. “While trying to remain hopeful, it slowly turns old frustrations and fear of the unknown, into acceptance.”

“Shuteye” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
