Wicked Messenger – “Golden Eyes”

//

The latest from Ohio-based band Wicked Messenger, the melodic “Golden Eyes” rides on brisk vocals, an array of guitars, and bursts of brass. Guitars shift seamlessly from bluesy twangs to lusher rhythmic aids, while brass provide a continuously spurting presence that’s enjoyably infectious. Additionally, 02:35 starts a creative, murky section with ominous attraction, the start of several enjoyable twists and turns in the final few minutes.

“Golden Eyes” is a fully consuming showing from this rising act out of Columbus, Ohio, presenting their first release since debut EP First Contact last October. The band notes classic psychedelic soul and hard rock having an influence on “Golden Eyes,” with lyrics narrating “the story of a lost wanderer finding vision and purpose in a barren world. While the nomad makes his way through scenes of dejection and suffering, he discovers a path to redemption and greatness.”

“Golden Eyes” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2020’ Spotify playlist.
