Max Helgemo – “Sidelines”

“Sidelines” is a gorgeous, reflective track from Max Helgemo. The artist previously impressed with the track “Slide Away” last May. Lyrically capturing feelings of uncertainty arising from isolation, “Sidelines” traverses from consuming verses into a haunting wordless croon after the 30-second turn. Textural expansion past the one-minute mark adds an orchestral hint, with a woodwind-friendly lushness emerging in the mix, especially two minutes in. Hypnotic and melodically beautiful, “Sidelines” succeeds with a certain oomph, even in the uncertain times the lyrics capture so well.

Previously featured Andrew Goldring mixed the track, in addition to playing bass, drums, and electric guitar.

“Sidelines” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk.
