Wilderman – “Cope Trip”

/

Projecting a feeling of much-deserved tropical escapism, “Cope Trip” is a hooky track out today from Wilderman, the project of Rob Gungor. Based out of Marfa, Texas, Gungor makes the track’s intentions as a quarantine anthem clear from the opening lyrics: “Looking like lockdown / Feeling like a zoom out.” The subsequent chorus — “time to take a cope trip, cope trip,” — shimmers alongside a melodic surf-pop-friendly vocal accompaniment and breezy keys. The refrain of “are you on a cope trip?” plays infectiously thereafter, retaining a lushness while still being melodically magnetic. We could all use a cope trip right about now.

“Cope Trip” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
